When was the last time you actually stopped and really experienced life? Are you focusing on what you are reading right at this moment or are you wondering what you are going to do in an hour, this afternoon or tomorrow?
As you go through your life, you will ultimately feel levels of physical and emotional pain. The more you experience and practice mindfulness, the more capacity you will have to understand, endure and control the pain.
With practice over time, you can figure out how to become more and more mindful in your everyday life. Mindfulness can help even if you are in the middle of significant suffering. Mindfulness has been compared to a deeply personal journey of discovery.
Almost everything we do is a habit, which means that in most cases you have been doing it so long that it is now an unconscious thought or action. As soon as you see someone, you make a judgment and categorize them. We can’t help it. Our brains are always trying to keep us safe, based on our unconscious definition of safety. It has to quickly categorize the people and situations you encounter so that it knows how you should respond.
New experiences open you up to meet new people, try new things, and learn a bit more about the world around you. And they open you up for more new experiences.
