Which of These is Holding You Back From Success?

In my last blog post, I shared a little bit of my story. That story was my reason, one of them at least, for starting Coffee.Yoga.Life. During that entire season of frustration, discontent, and feeling unfulfilled, I did not feel successful. No part of me felt successful. And when I tried to force my happiness it only made the situation worse. It wasn’t until I stepped back and truly tried to understand what I was feeling, that I was able to identify what was holding me back from success.

Are you going through something similar? Are you trying to figure out why you’re unhappy? Why you’re not successful? Why you’re frustrated and not where you want to be?

There are several reasons why you could be feeling that way. But here are few of what I think are the top reasons:

You’re stuck in your comfort zone

Your comfort zone is where you feel safe and fairly stress-free. You know your routine and what’s expected of you, and you can pretty much correctly guess what others will do and how they will respond. We are not always in our comfort zones but once there it can be difficult to leave. Why is it so hard? I think it ‘s because it is comfortable (even when it’s not). We know what to expect which lowers the risk involved. Even if it is not a happy situation, some prefer to stick with what they know rather than try something new only to find out that it is worse than where they are today. I get it, I understand. But is it helping you get to where you want to be?

You’re afraid to take responsibility for your life

Taking ownership can be scary. And taking ownership means that you are responsible for both the good and the bad. Maybe you’ve never had to make your own decisions. If that’s the case, I’m guessing that you are very young and your parents are still making the major decisions for you. Or that you follow your spouse’s, friends’, or boss’ decisions. Both situations are fine BUT I encourage you to start making some decisions for yourself. You can start small, like what kind of coffee you want or whether you want to eat at that restaurant for dinner. Remember that you can’t make impactful changes until you take ownership of your life.

You haven’t decided what you want

Have you been just kind of coasting through life? Decisions are hard. I get it. But so is living a life that doesn’t bring you joy. You know what’s best for you and if you take the time to listen to yourself, you already know what you want. And if you're still stuck, you have Google. Stop thinking everyone else knows better than you. And stop thinking that you are limiting yourself by making a decision. Choosing what you want frees you up to ignore everything that doesn’t align with your goal. It’s time to make a decision. Really.

You’re stuck in analysis paralysis

This one hits close to home for me. I overthink everything! There are a million and one ideas out there and way too much info about each one of them. Maybe you’ve done your research but don’t feel quite ready to take that next step just yet. Or you’re afraid you’ll miss a critical piece of information and you will look incompetent if you make a mistake. Or maybe you’ve analyzed and researched so much that you don’t know what to do next, so you research that too. There are so many reasons that we get stuck in analysis paralysis. But that cycle also needs to be broken.

Whatever your reason, it IS holding you back. That’s the reality.

But you can’t move forward until you learn what is really holding you back. So to help you here I created a special quiz just for you, What’s Holding You Back From Achieving Your Goals?

Take the quiz to find out what’s holding you back and what you can do about it.
